  • Abstract
Heterogeneous network resource sharing protocol (HNS) is a protocol working above the TCP/IP. It is given to share resources in heterogeneity operating systems on local area network. This protocol works in the application and presentation layers of OSI/RM. The identification mode is based on user level. The files in the sharing directory on the server can be operated directly by authorized user. Files can be delivered by command. A repository is used to implement the protocol. It manages the transformation of different format between the heterogeneity operating systems. The repository can be maintained dynamically in order to adapt the expanding applications. It is a characteristic that this protocol can separate format transformation from communication process. The present achievement is that the program on Linux server side and program on Windows client side. It proves the usability of HNS protocol.
