Abstract
Finite element and iterative techniques are used for the analysis of various types of Pierce electron guns. The functional for this is calculated using Poisson´s equation in the form of two dimensional rotationally symmetric and two dimensional axially symmetric spherical co-ordinates for parallel flow and conical convergent Pierce electron guns respectively. A computer program is developed on the basis of proposed scheme in which parallel flow and conical convergent Pierce electron guns are analyzed. The program is tested for parallel flow and conical convergent Pierce electron guns and reasonable results are obtained. The program solves Poisson´s equation (Laplace´s equation), traces equipotential lines and electron trajectories, and recomputes the space charge densities. The whole process is continued until a self-consistent solution is obtained. The results for some conventional Pierce electron guns are obtained as expected theoretically
