Abstract :
Equipment shelters for ground based systems are designed with a view to accommodate and mount various parts of an active system meeting the operational needs. Many a time these equipment shelters are mounted on mobile platforms and they need to satisfy stringent environmental requirements. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) control through proper design is an important issue which is to be tackled by the system designers during the initial stages of a project. Any practical shelter housing an active system, generally has provisions for different utilities like-access door, air ventilation windows, power and data cable penetrations etc. Without proper EM design considerations for these elements, the shelter design is incomplete and may lead to an incompatible system. A software is developed to predict the shelter performance depending upon the shelter specification data. Software is capable of predicting the leakage (i.e. air conditioning vents, access doors, apertures etc.) performance, as well as total shelter performance. Guidelines are given to improve the shelter performance at the selected frequencies. The features having the lowest shielding at the selected frequency are pointed out. The required shelter performance can be obtained by improving the shielding of the features. The shelter EMC design software is interactive and provides design guidelines in the form of HELP
