Abstract
This paper describes the basic concepts, the device and the methodology used to prevent the increase in pressure within a piece of metal-clad switchgear due to an uncontrolled open arcing fault condition. It defines significant parameters such as current, pressure and arcing time. It also discusses the tests that have been performed, the test methods that were used and the results that were achieved. An appendix containing available ratings and specifications is also included
