Abstract :
This paper concentrates on the metrication and performance issues of ring-based transport network architectures. A metrication framework is proposed for assessing network availability and a case study is presented to demonstrate the usage of this framework. The results of this case study provide the opportunity to analyse the performance of ring-based architectures and identify architectural issues that affect it. The trade-offs that these architectural issues introduce are discussed and network planning recommendations are made
