Abstract
The effect of acetophenone coating on the high-field DC conduction of low-density polyethylene was studied. The existence of acetophenone at the electrode interface significantly enhances the high-field DC conduction current. This effect was more remarkable when the acetophenone was put on the positive gold electrode or negative aluminum electrode. From these results, it is concluded that the acetophenone penetrates into the polymer through the island structure of the evaporated gold electrode. It also enhances the injection of electronic charge carriers, especially holes for the gold and electrons for the aluminum electrode, probably by modifying the surface state at the electrode interface
