Abstract
The performance of adaptive arrays working under the principle of directionally constrained minimization of power (DCMP) deteriorates severely because of pointing errors. In order to solve this pointing error problem, the tamed adaptive array has been proposed which aims to reduce the sensitivity to pointing errors by adding pseudo-noise to the input correlation matrix. The authors analyze the relation between the optimum array weights and pointing errors based on the eigen-decomposition of the input correlation matrix and provide an extended concept of the DCMP tamed adaptive array which can steer its mainbeam flexibly in the desired direction in the presence of pointing errors. Numerical examples are presented.<>
