Abstract
This paper describes a prediction filter for the check-in/check-out procedure in a cellular Mobile System. The mobiles can roam freely throughout the coverage area and will have to check-in and or checkout of cells while crossing their boundaries. In the introduction the essential RF quantities and prediction filter requirements will be outlined. More specifically, the Aurora (Automatic Roaming Radio) system will be paid some attention to. Following this, basic properties of the RF signal level propagating over the terrain will be described. Experimental results will be reported and the power density spectrum and auto correlation function of the envelope of the RF signal will be described. In the section entitled, "Filter Co-efficients" the coefficients are derived based on the properties of the RF signal level. The fact that the RF signal level is spacially non-stationary and the effect this will have on the filter co-efficients is discussed at the end of that section.
