Abstract :
An integrated control performance solution has been implemented at seven Weyerhaeuser mills over a period of two years; with plans underway to implement at all remaining facilities. Systematic problem detection and root cause analysis of process control loops is supported by plant wide automated prioritization based on performance, valve stiction detection and common oscillations analysis. Corporate performance and diagnostic reports based on several performance metrics for sector, business, mill, area and unit levels are sent to the appropriate business owner monthly. One of the key changes introduced by the performance solution is the fact that valve maintenance can now be tied to measured performance. These capabilities have allowed improved control performance in all mills where the solution has been deployed.
