Abstract :
This report is concerned on an indoor air purification ability of plant. Bioelectrical potential responses for both d.c. and a.c. electrical signals were analyzed to investigate the purification process for various chemicals such as formaldehyde and VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). It was first shown that the air purification ability of a plant depends on various environmental conditions, especially on light irradiation. It was then confirmed high purification ability of plant for formaldehyde, which is a main indoor air pollutant. It was also clarified that the bioelectrical potential responds to pollutant concentration change. These responses were especially observed on the leaflet. The correlation between gas purification process and generated bioelectrical potential were discussed to apply the air purification ability of plant in human life.
