Abstract :
Using modal expansion model, we investigate the various physical mechanisms that are critical for optical frequency combs generated with whispering gallery mode resonators. In particular, we show how the pump power, Kerr nonlinearity and dispersion profile interact, and eventually lead to an optical frequency comb that may span over one octave in optimal conditions.
