Abstract
The electrical infrastructure within a hospital is crucial for professionals and patients; it may affect the performance of equipment, undermining the work of professionals, as well as security. The intensive care unit is a department which is noteworthy since the neglect of the electrical infrastructure can lead to serious injury or even death. This paper reports a study conducted in an intensive care unit of a Brazilian hospital where has been performed an investigation of the electrical system (LPS, grounding, transformers, generators, tables, outlets, lighting), compared the results with the standards and made suggestions to solve the problems. An study for the rational use of energy and efficient solutions has also been performed.
