Abstract
Though many electric companies have used composite insulators (CI) for many years and there are several recommendation for their properties, there is not a universe standard for artificial contamination test of non-ceramic insulators. This paper reviews some of the major non-standard pollution test methods for CI. Salt fog method cannot give consistent results with actual field results. Clean fog test with a suitable pre-contamination can give better result. Besides the contamination methods, the artificial rain test for contaminated CI should also be considered to evaluate them.
