Abstract :
When dielectric particles are reduced in size to nanometric dimensions less than 100 nm the interfaces between them and their surroundings increase greatly in importance. The nature of these interfaces is reviewed and it is shown that they have dielectric and conductive properties very different from those predicted by classical dielectric theory. They also have electromechanical features, which are the foundation of all piezoelectric devices. Interfaces can dominate the development of new nanodielectrics.
