Abstract :
Digital Forensics is a developing scientific field that is constantly evolving and adapting to face the key challenges of the domain. These challenges are diverse in nature and range, and are increasing in sophistication. With the even more increasing dissemination of electronic devices, a greater variety of data formats being captured for analysis, the use of anti-forensic technologies and the ability to convey meaning from increasing volumes of data, the current challenges for digital Forensics are manifold. Compounding these challenges are the legal frameworks by which Digital Forensics techniques are constrained and must adhere to in order to ensure that the outcomes are suitable for legal systems. Given these technical challenges and operational constraints, research is an important aspect of this field that works to solve current practitioner challenges and to proactively determine emerging issues. The six papers in this conference represent a mixture of the social, political and technical issues currently facing Digital Forensics and also are looking to proactively solve future issues. We look forward to the discussions that will develop around the range of topics represented in the accepted papers.
