Abstract :
The traffic volume of multimedia content delivery to mobile phones is increasing at high pace. Mobile applications that receive pushed multimedia content have an important role in this evolution, and put requirements on integration concepts for reliable and optimized push data delivery mechanisms. This paper provides insights in prototyping experiences of developing a unicast-broadcast end-to-end system for multimedia files based on SMS push and MBMS technology. The key focus is on existing unicast push technology, the prototype evolution, available device interfaces and the architectural features of the prototype system. Furthermore, the article elaborates issues and possible solutions for large scale deployment of hybrid content distribution systems. To address 3rd party developers, an open lab environment for application development is presented.
