A taxonomy for analysis of cognitive work
Abstract :
The design of information systems in support of work in a modern, dynamic work environment is discussed. The human-work interface should be designed so as to match user needs and preferences when they have adapted to new work systems. System design must be based on analyses of the actual functionality of the work system itself and, for this purpose, a formulation of the intentions and reasons behind the work system design is necessary. The author reviews the taxonomy which is a result of several years of field studies and support system design to illustrate some of the potential applications which have been found to be important.<>
