Abstract :
At the ANSI T1M1 Plenary held in Toronto in September 1990, Bell Canada, in conjunction with Bell-Northern Research and Northern Telecom, successfully demonstrated a fiber transmission system OAM&P (operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning) application using the full 7-layer OSI (open systems interconnection) stack developed according to the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) T1M1 specifications. The demonstration consisted of a live hook-up between Northern Telecom Montreal and the demonstration site, showing in real-time the status of the equipment under surveillance. The authors describe the various aspects of the demonstration and its implementation
