Abstract
Design for environment (DFE) toolkits have grown rapidly in recent years, with a variety of streamlined life-cycle assessments, diagrams, and interpretation strategies being available. In this paper, the authors apply a selection of these tools to AT&T´s flagship 5ESS electronic switch to evaluate their use in assessing and improving a complex industrial product. The usefulness of the different tools is emphasized, especially the prioritization or DFE recommendations
