Abstract
A microwave vehicle sensor is described. It is based on microwave radiometry, that is measurement of microwave energy (or temperature) emitted or reflected by bodies. This technique allows detection of passing vehicules as well as measurement of speed and length. Abnormal road surface condition is also detected. The description includes the basic principles, the hardware implementation of the radiometer and digital signal processing. The detection algorithms with simulation and actual field recordings are discussed. Finally applications are given.
