Abstract :
Sustainable production and consumption (SP&C) emerged as an international priority at the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992. Since then, policy makers have called on the business sector to play a major role in promoting greater efficiencies in the life cycles of goods and services. This paper summarizes international policy developments in sustainable production and consumption from the perspectives of governmental organizations and business. The paper then examines strategies in the electronics industry that move towards SP&C, and make recommendations on how the electronics industry can achieve further progress in achieving SP&C objectives
