  • Abstract
The correlation between propagation of electrical tree and internal partial discharges is discussed. We used specimens with needle-plane electrode system made of LDPE, observed inception and propagation of electrical tree by optical microscopy and investigated the characteristics of the partial discharge (PD) pulses accompanying with propagation of electrical tree. In the case of branch type tree, the length of the tree had a good linear relation with average discharge power of PD pulses. On the other hand, in the case of bush type tree, the area of the tree had a good linear relation with the average discharge power of PD pulses
