Abstract :
It is shown that the introduction of a second electrode pair can help to improve the identification of stimuli of different pulse rates, particularly those at less than 200 pulses per second, presented on a given electrode pair. At higher pulse rates, the effect is less predictable. This can be incorporated into speech coding strategies which present different pulse rates on each of the two electrode pairs that are being stimulated to improve the identification of the encoded stimuli
