Abstract :
The attenuation of ultrasonic waves in specific dry rocks is measured in laboratory. The pulse echo technique is used to determine attenuation coefficients (α) and quality factor (Q) values of different kinds of rocks in the frequency range of 1-5 MHz. The laboratory measurements showed that, the attenuation coefficients are linearly proportional to frequency (constant Q) in the considered frequency range.
