Abstract :
This paper provides an overview of various wireless technologies employed within manufacturing sectors today, both at the informational level and at the device level. Included in the discussion are WiFi, Point to Point radios, wireless bus communications and others. A new technology know as Mesh Networks will also be reviewed in greater detail. As well as providing insights to the benefits and challenges in using each of these technologies the author will provide practical application examples of where/how these technologies have been successfully deployed. Specifically, applications such as asset health/condition monitoring, asset management and secondary monitoring will be highlighted. The author will illustrate how successful applications from other industries could also readily be applied to cement manufacturing. Finally some insights on what to consider before deploying wireless technologies will be provided.
