Abstract :
Summary form only given. Plasma display panel (PDP) is one of the most promising candidates for wall-hanging high definition color television (HDTV). However intense researches are still required especially for its luminance efficiency to be improved. This can be accomplished by the detailed understanding of the plasma dynamics inside the PDP cell via computer simulations. Up to the present, most of the simulational studies of PDP have been by two-dimensional codes, while the three-dimensional parameters such as barrier-rib structure, address electrode size, and sustain electrode shape are very important to determine the PDP cell properties. To investigate these three-dimensional effects, we have developed a new three-dimensional fluid code FL3P. This code is based on the local field approximation and the drift-diffusion model. For a high calculation speed, the Poisson equation and the continuity equations are coupled semi-implicitly. We checked the reliability of the FL3P by comparing its results with the Paschen theory and various diagnostics obtained by other simulations and experiments. Through the simulations using the FL3P, we analyze the three-dimensional dynamics and propose various newly designed cells with high-efficiencies.
