Abstract :
The development of a novel, stand-alone instrument for the measurement of two gases (namely methane and carbon monoxide) is presented in this paper. The main contribution of this research work is focused on the novel method for the identification of the two gases from a pair of SnO2 sensors. Instead of suppressing the cross-sensitivity of each of the sensors, this method is combining the information from both of them to calculate the two concentrations. A two-dimensional information table, obtained from a detailed calibration procedure, is used by this microcontroller-based method which is shown to offer a clear identification and measurement of the concentration of each of the two gases with a measurement error of less than 2%.
