Abstract
The Telecommunication Industry is facing tremendous economic challenges including operational cost containment while attempting to deliver increasingly more complex systems and providing a consistently higher level of quality and customer service across wide geographical areas. Since customer pressure to keep price down is relentless, this has driven telecommunication equipment makers to outsource their manufacturing operations to EMS partners operating in low cost geographies and subsequently to also outsource their R&D activities including new product introduction (NPT). This outsourcing model relies on product development being spread among several R&D sites worldwide, along with external partners.
