Abstract
To account for the effect of carboxyhemoglobin on pulse oximeters, the feasibility of simultaneously measuring the functional oxygen saturation and percent carboxyhemoglobin using the pulse oximetry technique was studied. A theoretical model was established, and an in-vitro experiment was carried out. Both the theoretical and experimental results show that the simultaneous measurement is feasible. It was found that the use of 630-nm light gives very good measurement accuracy
