Abstract
Computed tomography (CT) is one of the advanced means for non-destructive testing (NDT), which has the virtues of non-destructive, non-contact and high resolution. It is called the best means for NDT by the circle of international NDT. It has been widely applied in diagnostic medicine and industrial non-destructive testing. X-ray CT (XCT) is the most popular CT. Compared with other parts of CT system, reconstruction algorithm is an important part. In this paper, the theory of maximum likelihood estimation is applied to XCT, and ordered subsets expectation maximization (OS-EM) algorithm is studied and implemented. OS-EM algorithm is a feasible iterative method. It can provide good quality reconstructions after only a few iterations. Experiments results with real X-ray CT data show this method is effective. Reconstructed slice images of OS-EM algorithm are accurate and clear.
