Abstract :
A laboratory implementation of a fuzzy logic-tracking controller using a low cost Motorola MC68HC11E9 microprocessor is described in this paper. The proposed fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is inherently robust, and is based on simple rules that are derived from engineering and experimental results. An important feature is that real-time nonlinearities are not ignored, but no mathematical model is required. Several test cases were conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Experimental results show that the effective smooth speed/position control and tracking of brushless DC motors can be achieved by the FLC, thus making it suitable for high performance motor drive applications. The results obtained indicate excellent tracking performance for both speed and position. For the sake of comparison, a bang-bang controller is also tested. The fuzzy logic controller performs significantly better than the traditional bang-bang controller does. The bang-bang controller was inaccurate and lacked robustness. Description of the implementation hardware system is also given
