Abstract :
Multi-segmented ferrite cores have been developed by cutting standard MnZn ferrite cores into thin segments and assembling them together. The segments are separated by air gap or insulation materials of microscopic dimensions. The core loss properties of these modified ferrite cores have been investigated and measured from 200 kHz to 2 MHz frequency. The real and imaginary parts of the effective permeability have been calculated. Experiment results showed that the multi-segmented ferrite cores are effective in reduction of core loss by possible mechanisms such as redistribution of the internal electromagnetic field and alleviation of magnetic skin effect
