Abstract :
A new off-line writer recognition method is proposed which uses a 2D membership function obtained by piling up characters as a dictionary. This is an extension of our previous work that also used the 2D membership function with α-cut. This time the principal component analysis was used to characterize one´s handwriting features, and the dictionary was constructed of characters not far from the mean character. This method was applied to writer recognition of 21 students who wrote 8 types of “hiragana” characters and an 86.5% recognition rate was obtained
