Abstract
Computer networks, specially local area networks, have become the backbone of any progress in many important fields such as business, industries, government, schools, research laboratories and so on. The task of configuring the most suitable LAN for a specific plant with definite requirements is very complex, specially with the rapid rate of change of network technology and products. Expert systems can provide a valuable assistant solution for such problems. We propose an expert LAN design, which meet different requirements for diverse practical situations. Helpful hierarchical rules that cover different subjects concerning LAN design are proposed
