Abstract :
A spatio-temporal channel model based on EM scattering is presented where the properties of the transmit and receive antennas are included. The direction and the amplitude of the electromagnetic field are also included in the model instead of using just an amplitude. These directional properties are then used to analyze the polarization diversity in a propagation scenario with scattering objects of simple shapes. A vector RAKE receiver for this scenario is employed and the resulting BER is related to physical parameters of the propagation environment. It is found that a substantial improvement in BER is possible by exploiting polarization diversity and that the result is insensitive to the orientation of the base station antennas
