Abstract :
The integrated turbulence forecasting algorithm (ITFA), which produces timely clear-air turbulence (CAT) forecasts for the contiguous United States, is described. In support of the ITFA development, an event-driven meteorological evaluation of the ITFA was performed from 1 January to 30 April 2000. The evaluation focused on correlating ITFA predictions to reports of moderate or greater CAT, the meteorological conditions that produced the turbulence, and assessing the operational impact of the ITFA predictions
