Abstract :
Recent changes in computers, computer software and the profiles of computer users make migrating computer-based instruction (CBI) on the Old English poem “The Dream of the Rood” to a Web environment a practical solution to problems of access. This move presents great advantages as well as unforeseen problems, but the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. Initial deliberations on the process produced the realization that the change in venue requires a re-thinking of the goals of the original document in light of the new and largely unknown global audience, and a reconsideration of these goals and new audience in the light of the original goals and audience. This process of re-examination reveals the centrality of the bond among the controls of computer-based instruction, its goals and its audience
