Abstract :
With the expansion of Internet traffic and its diversified service demand, a new service model, differentiated services, has been under intensive research in recent years. Based on the former work on the proportional differentiation model by Dovrolis et al., we propose an improved proportional differentiation service model that is compatible with the architecture of the differentiated service for the next-generation Internet. In our proposed model, relative differentiated services are provided, based on both drop rate and delay. Our forwarding algorithm also avoids the problem of traffic starvation that can happen in the original scheme. In addition, we propose a solution to simplify the process of in/out profile packets associated with the service model. Simulation experiments are also performed and presented to verify the improvement of the model
