Abstract :
This paper introduces the concept and architecture of DAN based on ATM. DAN (desk area network) is a network constructed by interconnecting types of equipment such as display, video recorder or audio I/O. Multimedia DAN is a minitype high-speed network suitable for multimedia service transfer, and its design target is the reconstruction of desktop computer architecture by applying ATM technology. Performance of a DAN switch network is analyzed. The distribution of input queue length and contention time are obtained using the matrix geometric method. Probability of cell loss and cell mean delay are obtained and numerical analysis and computer simulation show there is better QoS performance
