Abstract
We study the general issues in virtual private networking (VPN) and identify the various ways of implementation. The different implementations are required in different environments where the VPN is accessed. Based on the study, we propose a unified VPN architecture that can support the different implementations. This architecture provides a consistent view of the VPN services over the public network and the Internet. It is also crucial to achieve the scalability in service deployment and the ultimate success of VPN technologies and services
