Abstract
In this paper, an overview of the different all optical wavelength conversion techniques is presented, based on the semiconductor optical amplifiers. In the first part, the three main techniques are discussed and assessed, namely the cross gain modulation (XGM) cross phase modulation (XPM) and four wave mixing. In the second part, a more in depth discussion of the properties of the four wave mixing (FWM) is presented
