Abstract :
We present an approach to computer-based education that takes advantage of dialogue modelling. Dialogue modelling is examined with a view to using it to provide the models needed to develop Web-based adaptive support for online argumentative debate, specifically debate about design evaluation issues for multimedia students. Our work is motivated by the fact that certain domains are very difficult to produce models that can form the basis for systems design. Dialogue analysis and dialogue modelling techniques are then briefly explored to see if they can be used to meet the implementation challenge of building to a Web-based pedagogical agent in the real-world situation of supporting undergraduate multimedia studies
