Abstract
As dense WDM (DWDM) technology becomes an integral part of optical communications, it has become increasingly difficult to engineer optical networks. We are beginning to see simulation tools emerge to tackle these inherently difficult design problems. There are tools that target specific devices, others that are tailored for optical point-to-point links and some that deal with optical networks exclusively
