Abstract :
Thermal energy has been used to perform coagulation in biological tissue since many years. Especially laser radiation is known as a means to induce interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) using a diffuser at the distal end of a lightguide positioned in the respective tissue. The aim of the procedure is to generate enough heat to stop the spread of benign or malignant diseases located at different sites in the human body via a heat-driven transformation process
