Abstract :
Shared memory based switch is an important model of ATM switches. It can provide optimal switching performance for different traffic patterns. In this paper, a new model of shared memory based switch-associated memory based switch (AMS)-has been presented. AMS has more characteristics, such as simple switching principle, simple system architecture, suitability for different traffic patterns and different service classes, optimal switching performance and memory space utilization. It can also provide multicasting and broadcasting capabilities
