Abstract
The future growth in the demand of transmission bandwidth makes the development of all-optical transport networks and optical cross-connects very important. We consider rearrangeable non-blocking switching fabrics configured in a multistage structure with very simple switching elements. One of the problems of these networks is the crosstalk: a wavelength approach is used here showing that two wavelengths suitably assigned are sufficient to solve any blocking and crosstalk problems. We compare this type of networks, called rearrangeable networks with zero non-filterable crosstalk, with other networks, showing that they give the best performance when employed to implement optical-cross-connects
