  • Abstract
    The development of cost efficient data converters and digital IF signal processors is called upon to play a crucial role in the concept of software radio transceivers. The software radio concept enables the necessary flexibility and innovation for existing and next generation of wireless systems. The general trend of wireless wide-band transceivers points to continuing reduction of radio frequency processing at the expense of increased digital signal processing. This work reviews SoftCellTM, a chipset (digital IF receive/transmit signal processors and analogue-to digital and digital to analogue converters) for flexible software radio base-station architectures for the major digital wireless standards
