Abstract :
This paper describes the permanent virtual connection (PVC) network interworking between frame relay (FR) and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technologies. This management provides the functional requirement configurations across the interface for network interworking between the frame relay service (FRS) and the B-ISDN permanent virtual connection service (PVCS). The management herein was based on the relevant referenced standards. The FRS features to be supported include; frame formatting and delimiting, error detection, connection multiplexing, loss priority indication, congestion indication and PVC status management. The frame relay to asynchronous transfer mode (FR-ATM) traffic management provides a guideline for conversion of frame relay traffic conformance parameters to ATM traffic conformance parameters using the generic cell rate algorithm (GCRA) configuration. The management of the ATM layer and the FR PVC status management of the frame relay service specific convergence sublayer (FR-SSCS) can operate independently. The FR-SSCS layer use the PVC status from the ATM layer when determining the status of the FR PVCS
