  • Abstract
This paper considers the minimax design problem of FIR digital filters and proposes a new design algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a Remez exchange based one in which the coefficients of the filter are evaluated with an orthogonalized projection algorithm. The estimated coefficients are proved to be convergent to the true values for a given set of extremal frequencies. Design examples show that the proposed OPRemez algorithm can be used to design filters with very high filter length, and that the algorithm takes fewer exchanges than the standard Remez exchange algorithm
