Abstract :
This paper extends the design approach based on time-domain formulation for perfect reconstruction filter banks to the design of wavelet-like filter banks by numerical optimisation of a set of non-linear simultaneous equations satisfying a number of basic properties desired. Also presented in the paper are their performances on image compression and denoising applications compared with the traditional Daubechies (1988) wavelet filter banks, thereby demonstrating the potential and the effectiveness of the wavelet-like filter banks designed
